I get a lot of my inspiration through music. I find the means to relax, unwind, and even motivation through music. From jogging to the beat of an R&B song, to kickboxing to upbeat hip hop songs, to decompressing through Assyrian songs, and meditating through Christian songs, specifically music by Hillsong and Arabic hymns. No matter what mood I’m in, there’s a song for that.
Last week, as I was driving home from a meeting, the song “Blink” by Revive came on the radio. This song was released back in 2010 and I’ve heard it numerous times, but I think this was the first time I truly listened to the lyrics.
Teach me to number my days
And count every moment before it slips away
Taking all the colors before they fade to gray
I don’t want to miss even just a second more of this
It happens in a blink
It happens in a flash
It happens in the time it took to look back
I try to hold on tight, but there’s no stopping time
What is it I’ve done with my life
It happens in a blink
Slow down, slow down
Before today becomes our yesterday
Slow down, slow down
Before you turn around and it’s too late
After I was done singing along while driving, I started to reflect on how fast time is passing me (us) by, and how quickly everything around me (us) seems to be moving. Some days I feel an extreme sense of accomplishment and other days I’m beyond exhausted with not much to show for it, I’m sure you can relate. Slow down and soak in what’s happening in the moment, good or bad, savor the time you have because before you know it your today will become your yesterday.
