I love this time of the year, the colorful trees, the decorations, the music, and the food—too much to choose from. But one of my favorite parts of this season is the giving. Watching everyone around me amplifying the spirit of giving is so heartwarming. Although many tend to give throughout the year, there is something special about giving during the Christmas season; when a family realizes their financial limitations and has a stranger come alongside them to help make that Christmas memorable. Thanksgiving time is a reminder to reflect and give thanks for my abundant blessings. In the past year, my family has experienced a tremendous amount of unknown, topped with lots of change, but through it all, we have relied on our heavenly Father to see us through and our joy in trusting him. It is easier to focus on the negative in every situation because finding the blessings in disguise takes more effort. Yet, it is more rewarding when we rejoice in everything, even in our struggles. A pitcher can only fill up so many cups before it’s empty. And once it’s empty, it has very little impact. It’s practically useless. The same goes for us; we can only give so much of ourselves, our advice, our time, and our energy before we are depleted, exhausted, and drained. Self-awareness is critical in making sure you’re not dry. Pushing through will only lead to more stress on you and those around you. Be aware of what rejuvenates you and stay consistent.
