#Character

Last week I wrote about my little superhero, Kannon, and his ability to maintain his character while facing his villain, something no child should experience, and no parent should watch their child go through. Character, a word taken lightly yet it holds so much weight. Your character is unique only to YOU. No one else has your characteristic qualities which makes you distinctive from your peers.

As we mature and grow, so does our character. It’s always evolving, always shifting and developing, hopefully in the right direction. It is what speaks to the people and it represents who we truly are on the inside. Our character is maintained by the choices we make on a daily basis. The more choices we make that are in line with our morals and values the stronger our character becomes, and the easier it gets to make the difficult decisions. On the contrary, when we compromise our morals we compromise our character, making it harder to get back on track and in making the right choices. Staying true to our character and maintaining it in the midst of adversity is extremely crucial.

When I think about character, I always think of the golden rule “Do to others what you want them to do to you.” Matthew 7:12. It takes good character to be able to treat others better than they treat us, to be able to take the high road of forgiveness instead of the low road of retaliation. I definitely don’t always take the high road, some days it is so much easier to react and let people know how I feel, but those are the days when I feel like I compromised my character by letting others get the best of me. Through my growth journey, I have learned that when people treat me poorly, it is a reflection on their character…not mine.

Let your actions and your character speak louder than your words. In doing so, you will be able to build trust with others. So what are you doing today to build your character for the better?

Beautifully said. Character is at the heart of everything we do. Our VALUES determine our CHARACTER. Your writing continues to inspire!
