DMX

When I am stressed, feeling down, or even excited, I listen to music. I have a different genre for each mood. Early in the mornings or late at night, when I can’t sleep, I listen to Christian music. When I’m writing or feeling nostalgic, I listen to Assyrian music. When I am exercising, I listen to hip hop or even rap music. Music has been my escape ever since I was a little girl. It allowed me to daydream into a fairytale land away from my environment, the war, and everything else that was happening.

This past week, one of my favorite music artists/actors, Earl Simmons, or better known as DMX, passed away. He was known for his rough barking during his music, and when he barked, the world heard. He knew how to draw the listener in and have them feel his emotions. One of his many gifts was being a preacher. He had a rough upbringing that was full of challenges. He used his past and his passion for Christ to reach people. He had a unique way to reach the unreachable. However, amongst all his gifts, he struggled to find his purpose. He often found himself in trouble with the law, and no matter how hard he tried to find his place, to find his true calling, it just never worked out for him.

We are all designed for a plan and a purpose. Some of us have to search for it, while others are placed in it and often miss it. DMX was the latter. He had the platform to make a difference, yet he kept missing the mark. Having a higher purpose is the motivator in life, a reason to stay engaged, to push through when life storms strike. Without it, we could be a leaf blowing in the wind.

Today, you might just be planted right where you need to be, so don’t miss the purpose of your existence.
