Imagine attending a funeral… as you arrive and walk inside, you pass many grieving people, some you recognize and some you don’t. You make your way inside the church; you look around and notice the beautiful flower arrangements and the mellow music playing softly in the background. You slowly near the open casket at the altar and you come face to face with…YOU. It’s your funeral! You find a seat as the service is about to begin. After a short message from the priest, a handful of people stand up and share a few words about you. Some of them are family members, others are coworkers, and others are friends. What would they say? How would they describe your character? Better yet, what would you have wanted them to say?

Think about that day and what it looks like, what will people walk away with as they attend your service? Will they have the full facts about you or fabricated words used to fill the eulogies?
Often times we work without the end in mind, we are so focused on the now that we lose sight of the end result until it’s too late. If you have the end in mind clearly defined then you can start building towards that, you can stay true to what you want your character to display and start accomplishing that. Clearly define where you are today and where you want to be in five, ten, or even twenty years from now, and take the daily steps towards it.
Don’t give someone else the chance to write your story based on their perceptions or fabrications. Be the author of your story and your journey. Focus on what matters to you and what helps you grow. If you need help identifying a few areas in your life where you need help or if you need assistance coming up with a plan, drop me a line and I will be more than happy to connect with you and help you.
