Winston Churchill’s leadership during World War II was nothing short of exemplary. He was a leader of hope to his people. When the Nazis made their way through Europe, and began bombing England, the task of defeating Hitler and the Nazis seemed impossible. However, despite the overwhelming odds against them, the British stood firm. A small nation stood up to the Nazis for a long time.
When Winston Churchill was asked what was England’s greatest weapon versus the Nazis, he responded with one word: Hope.
Hope can become one of our greatest weapons to combat loss, if we allow it. It could be the difference maker in any situation where we feel as if we’re failing and facing potential defeat.
Hope helps us see beyond the immanent situation. It gives us the opportunity to be optimistic, to look ahead and strive for better. Hope becomes stronger as we focus on what could be instead of what is or was. It also gives us the motivation to move forward and take the next step. Hope is crucial in everything, especially when we face setbacks. As we experience discouragement, we can dwell on it or we can change our thinking and see life through hope. It is deep in every single one of us, we just have to tap into it. If you are going through a storm and things just seem impossible, reach deep down and grab on to that hope that’s inside of you waiting to surface and help you stand firm.
