Although January is my least favorite month of the year, it gives me hope for the possibilities and the opportunities the new year will bring. After the past two years, it’s hard to fathom anything but what we’ve already witnessed and experienced. However, I refuse to give in. I am hopeful for a better year.
I am hopeful for new adventures with my family. I am hopeful for further spiritual steps to strengthen my faith. I am hopeful for the personal and professional growth that comes with never giving up. Above all, I am hopeful of finding new ways to love those around me.
As you learn to travel light (see last week’s post), it’s important to practice making room for love. Whether it’s loving others, even the unlovable, and of course, loving yourself.
We spend so much time making lists of things we want to accomplish, books we want to read, and places we want to visit. How often is loving people on one of those lists? How often do we look at someone and say, “I should love this person a little bit more today?” I know I don’t do it all the time, but it is high on my list.
I can claim to be a woman of faith, I can even shout it from the rooftops, but if I can’t love people the way they’re meant to be loved, then I am nothing. My accomplishments will mean nothing. Making people feel special and loved is becoming more and more a priority, especially as I get older. I don’t know if I’m focusing less on myself and more on others, or if I’m just getting wiser with age J
