My Changing Success

Success has a different meaning for each individual. To some, success is based on financial stability and wealth, for others it’s in the title within their corporate ladder, as for others it’s having their daily needs met. We all experience success differently. It’s a process and it’s never ending. We identify what success looks like, and then we take the necessary steps to achieve it.

When I worked in the corporate world, I had the privilege of wearing different titles each time I climbed the leadership ladder. As my titles changed so did my salary (in most cases but not all). I managed to maximize on every position to the point of there were very few steps remaining on those ladders. At the time this was success in my book. It matched with where I wanted to be in my career. I was able to help provide for my family and live a comfortable life. What made my success more enjoyable was the excitement of going to work each and every day. I enjoyed what I did and the people I worked with made my job all the more satisfying. Very rarely did I leave work with regrets.

In December 2016, I began a new journey. My calling and my purpose in life changed. I took a major leap of faith, resigned from my job as the Manager of Operations, and Human Resources Manager, to become a Motivational Speaker and a Life Coach. As I embarked on this new journey I just assumed that success would come very easy and I would change the world within the first few months. Boy was I wrong! Starting my own business from home has been extremely challenging, eye opening, and rewarding. Success has not be easy for me to identify or pinpoint. Although I’ve accomplished much, there are days where I struggle to identify success in the big picture. And that is because the definition of success has changed in my new journey, and as it’s changing, I have to adapt to it and change my mindset along with it to be able to recognize my accomplishments. It’s human nature to dwell on the negatives at times, ignoring all the good around, lucky for me, I have a very supportive husband and sisters that are quick to point out the good and keep me focused.

As you move forward in your journey, identify what success looks like to YOU. Not what it looks like to others! Take the necessary steps to achieve it and if you fail once, twice, or a hundred times, it’s okay, stay focused. And remember that “Success is a process, it is unstoppable, it may stumble but never stops.” Robert H. Schuller
