My Word

If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you will notice the various posts on your news feed regarding people’s word of the year for 2019. I was introduced to this concept three years ago when I was listening to one of John Maxwell’s teachings.

If you haven’t chosen a word yet, I highly recommend you do so sooner rather than later. This is a fun little way to set a theme for your year. A theme that can steer you towards being more intentional verses the rigid New Year’s resolutions that often time are abandoned and become a thing of the past. Your little word can help you stay focused and intentional. It can be your gentle reminder of what you would like to achieve.

If you don’t have one yet, it’s not too late to choose now. Pick seven to ten words that speak to you the best, words that not only feel good but also motivate you. Find words that best describe your desire for 2019 then narrow those words down to the one that touches your heart the most. Declare that word, own it, write it down on a piece of paper and post it somewhere you will see often. Maybe you need it posted in several different places such as your desk, your bathroom mirror and your refrigerator. Here are a few words that might help you:

My word for 2019 is INTENTIONAL. I am a task oriented person with OCD and type A personality. Often times when I have much to do, I get lost in my task list. Almost as if my focus shifts to tunnel vision, and in the process I miss out on the little things especially with my family. So this year, even though I’m not going to give up my task list, I will however, become more intentional with my time with them. Playing dollhouse, building Legos, and coloring with the girls and scheduling more dates with my husband, and having more personal connections with family and friends (outside of social media ). Intentionality is the theme I want to carry through 2019.

I would love to hear what your word for 2019 is and what lead you to choose that one.
