Our Giants

Often times we limit our thinking by creating obstacles and preventing ourselves from thinking outside the box. We sell ourselves short in every aspect for various reasons from fear of the unknown to the fear of failure. Nonetheless, when we start thinking big, we open up to endless opportunities and possibilities. It’s not luck that gets us somewhere; it’s our ability to look for solutions instead of problems and our willingness to put in the work to be able to reach the next level.

The best example I can think of when it comes to being small but thinking big is the story of David and Goliath. A story that took place thousands of years ago where a young boy named David faced a bully named Goliath. As I read the story, I picture this small teenager running towards a man twice his size if not more, reaching into his bag for a stone, slinging it and hitting the giant on the forehead bringing him down to the ground, face forward. What a feat! When David first volunteered he was told he was too small and lacked experience yet he was the only one who was brave enough to step up and do something about the bully.

We all face giants in our daily lives. Giants, that bully us into fear such as lacking self-esteem, negative thinking, and unwillingness to change. Just like David didn’t have the proper equipment for battle, we may lack experience and tools to overcome our giant but we have to think big, think possibilities, reach deep down within ourselves and grab those stones to sling.

Don’t sell yourself short, you are more than capable to overcome anything you set your mind to. The next time you find yourself making excuses for your problems, take that situation and make the most of it, only then can you slay your giant.
