Death is nothing but the second bookend to your shelf life, which means your days are numbered. This is a known fact. However, most of us live our lives as if they’re not. We live as if we have eternity to make things happen. We let opportunities slip right through our fingers because we tell ourselves “Eh, I can get to it tomorrow.” When in reality, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Tomorrow gives us the hope of having another chance to do something yet so suddenly tomorrow becomes our today and nothing changes. Our hopes and dreams get postponed to another tomorrow.
There are numerous life experiences that cause us to pause and look at our lives, and make us realize how precious and short life is but shortly after those experiences pass, we forget that feeling and that appreciation and we resume our normal life, our normal daily behavior. The past two weeks have been extremely challenging for my family and I as we watched my mother go from completely healthy and off all her medications to discovering that she had multiple blockages and was requiring a balloon pump to help ease the work on her heart in matter of hours. Hearing the doctor tell us to prepare for the worst was not what we expected. Thankfully, the doctors discovered her heart failure in time and had to perform a 5 bypass (which is uncommon). Though she is slowly improving and moving forward, I can’t help but to reflect on the experience and what could have been. Spending all that time in the ICU and watching people from all walks of life receive news they too did not anticipate made me realize how quickly things can change and how tomorrow is not a guarantee.
Accept the fact that the second bookend to your shelf life is inevitable. Now how will that change your attitude towards today? Death is what gives your life meaning, because you know your days are numbered. Stop hoping for tomorrow when today is not over.
Dear Ramina,
You and your family have been in our hearts and prayers. Your momma is a precious woman of God. Loved by many.
I am so thankful to the Lord for His mighty hand upon her, guiding the hands of the medical team that cared for her and the Healing Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
May the Holy Spirit continue to comfort and help her and your family.
Hope to see her soon. God bless you.
Love,
Gloria Arguello
