We are all capable of accomplishing far more than we actually do. There seems to be a gap between what we get done and what we are capable of doing. For some people this gap is much larger than others. When I think of what would close that gap, self-discipline comes to mind. I hear people say “well if I just had more time, I would…” or “if I was as talented as so and so, then I would…” I’m sure at some point we have all said either or both of these statements. Although more time would be nice, and additional talent would be extremely beneficial, I see others accomplishing far more with the same qualities that you and I have. How do they do it you ask? Well my friend, I believe its self-discipline.
Look at professional athletes. They are extremely talented and their skills on the court or field look so effortless. Most of them weren’t born with these talents or skills; it was their self-discipline and commitment to the game that got them to that level. Their game is only 10% of their success; it’s the remaining 90% of commitment and consistency that took them to a higher level than most. When we see success we tend to only see the outcome, often times overlooking the hard work and effort it took people to get there; the 90% of discipline and commitment.

Self-discipline is the commitment to staying consistent, focusing on the important tasks that get us farther than the distractions that eat away our time, energy, and give us short lived satisfaction. It starts with managing yourself before managing your life. When you keep the end result in mind, stay focused on the outcome, and follow through with the tasks, you increase your self-discipline.
