We are all familiar with superheroes and may have seen a movie or two…or ten, from the Justice League that stand for unity and justice, to the Avengers saving the universe on so many occasions.

We find a connection to these fictional heroes, we draw an attraction to their abilities, qualities, and characteristics, and we begin to relate to them.

What about real life superheroes? I believe, in the real world, superheroes come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Some of them cross our paths for a brief moment, impact us then leave without a trace, but the impression they leave behind is priceless. Others, we’ve known for most of our lives, we look up to them, and even depend on them every now and then. While some are fictional characters in a movie, or a celebrity we have never met yet we admire, follow, and try to mimic their trends. They influence our lives and at times change them.
Let me tell you about my favorite superhero, his name is Kannon James Wood. Kannon is a 3-year-old boy who is full of love, joy, compassion and so much more. I don’t think I have enough words to describe the wonderful spirit of this little guy. He is one of the sweetest boys I’ve ever met, he gives the warmest hugs, Olaf ‘s hugs (Frozen) can’t even come close. From the moment our paths crossed he stole my heart. He can brighten any room just by walking into it, especially those hospital rooms which have become almost a second home to him and his family since he began his fight against Leukemia. Kannon received his Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia diagnosis a few days before his 3rd birthday back in early December 2017. Since, he has been fighting with a smile and courage.

His chemo is referred to as his superhero medicine, and he has been nothing short of a superhero as he faces his villain. He has endured so many chemo therapy treatments already yet he is soaring high, most times you can’t even tell he’s sick. His treatments would make most of the grownups curl up in a fetal position and cry, yet he smiles all the way through. Kannon’s slogan is “Kicking Cancer’s Tooshie” he’s on a mission and he is looking good completing it.
Like Kannon, as you complete your mission, are you kicking your villain’s tooshie with courage and a smile or are you curling up in a corner feeling sorry for yourself? As you endure your trials and tribulations which can drive you to a breaking point, what does your character look like and is it being compromised.
