The Gap

We all have goals, hopes and dreams that we would like to accomplish someday. But for most, it stops with the word “someday.” Whether you want to improve your financial status, to exercise more, to commit to a better diet, to pray more, or even settle down and have a family, there is a gap between where you are today and where you would like to be. Actually, there are many gaps.

These gaps can do two things. They can either give you hope, anticipation, motivation, and excitement which in turn lead to the desire to overcome them. Gradually closing them, and moving one step closer to achieving your goal. Or, these gaps can paralyze you, give you doubts, and make you question your destination, preventing you from the future you desire.

How big is your gap(s) and what are you doing with it? Are you controlling your gap by slowly shrinking it down or is it controlling you by stopping you from what could be?

  1. First, look at where you are today and where you would like to be in one year, five years, or even twenty years from now.
  2. Set a date for each goal. In doing so, it makes your goal more realistic and gives you a deadline to work towards. Hold yourself accountable to the deadline.
  3. Then, establish how big the gap is and what it will take to minimize it. Make it a habit to work on it every day, even if it’s just for five minutes a day, the repetitiveness will have a greater impact than you can imagine. Going to the gym once will not provide you with a six-pack and a better body, but going to the gym repeatedly will.

Whatever your goal, there are methods and resources to achieve it but you have to start. Don’t be trapped in the “someday” and don’t be crippled by the gap.
