Despite the quarantine, we decided to keep a small sense of normalcy and decorate for Easter, knowing full well that we would not be hosting our usual family gathering and all the festivities that surround this day. We even introduced a new tradition to the girls, a daily egg hunt. Each night, my husband and I filled two plastic eggs with various candy, money, etc., and we hid them around the house and every morning our girls would go on a search for their one egg. I didn’t realize how much they truly enjoyed this fun little activity until Easter Sunday when my youngest daughter came downstairs crying shortly after being tucked in bed. She was sad because the daily egg hunt was over. After talking to her, I realized it’s not the egg or the candy that the girls were excited about, but the task itself.
We do have certain activities to do every day after online schooling is done but none of it is consistent, or certain. Due to so much unknown and so much change taking place lately, we have adapted the “go with the flow” concept which has been helpful but consistency is important. So as a family we have created a list of fun activities to do daily. This will give our girls something different to look forward to every day.
In the midst of what’s happening around us, it is important to have a sense of anticipation for something positive. It is frustrating when your schedule is off track, your life has been turned upside down, almost as if it’s on pause until told otherwise, and you have no idea when the resume button will be pushed. In the meantime, you can continue to feel productive, accomplished, and have things to look forward to. You too should make a list. A list of books you want to read, projects you have been intending to complete, or even that closet or desk you’ve wanted to clean. Make a list and start checking it off.
