Imagine life as a river, you don’t know where it’s headed but you know it’s going somewhere. So you tube your way down the river, letting its streams carry you wherever they may. You don’t choose your current; you’re just floating your way down a path. Until one day, you look ahead and see nothing; you realize there’s going to be a fall soon, a fall you have not been prepared for because you’ve been floating all along. The time to wake up and save yourself from the fall is now and not when you’re halfway down the stream.
Start directing your own course and chose your own destination. Push yourself beyond your limits by thinking outside the box and going farther than you ever thought possible. Don’t settle for what is in front of you right now when you know deep down you’re meant for something more. When you start pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, personal growth begins to emerge.
One of my favorite quotes is by Gerald Brooks, “Every level of growth requires a new level of change.” How true is that in your life? We can declare seeking growth but if we don’t change our habits, we will miss out on opportunities that come our way. As you work towards your New Year’s goals and resolutions, stop tubing down a path that wasn’t designed for you and start aiming for your purpose.
