What Is Your Heartbeat Doing For You?

Place your right hand over your heart, do you feel that?  It’s your heart beating.  Every beat is an opportunity, another chance.  Each beat is a gift and an ability to live and enjoy life.  You can appreciate it or completely ignore it. 

We all acknowledge the importance of a beating heart; survival would not be possible without it.  But how often do we take the time to appreciate those beats?  Every single one offers us the ability to make a change, to try new things, to love more.  It is never too late to examine your life and take small steps towards a new path, a new journey. 

I had never slowed down long enough to appreciate something as simple as my heartbeat until a few years ago when I started having chest pains and minor heart problems.  After several stressful months and many cardiology related tests, it was made clear that I needed to make a change in my life.  A shift was necessary.  That’s when I turned in my two weeks’ notice to my employer and embarked on a brand new journey I knew very little about.  Through that entire ordeal I learned to take a minute or two, to slow down and listen to what my heart is telling me.  I became more aware of the little things that I previously took for granted. 

In no way am I recommending you to quit your job and do what I did without a safety net.  However, I am recommending that you take a minute to slow down and listen to your beats.  What are they telling you? Are you on the right path or do you need to make a small shift (or a big one) it all depends on your flexibility and your ability to make the commitment. 

Don’t waste another beat living in the world of “what if” withering away instead of thriving.  Listen to the rhythm, what is it telling you?
