Discovery is such an exciting word because it means you are doing something you haven’t done before. It means you are being curious. You are walking a new path you haven’t walked before. But with discovery comes experimentation. It takes trials and errors, and sometimes even tribulations, in order to succeed. Most of us don’t stumble upon success at first try, it takes much effort and experiments to succeed and achieve the desired outcome. It took Thomas Edison 1,000 attempts to invent the light bulb, when he was asked how he felt failing 1,000 times, he responded with “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. Later on Jordan observed, “I’ve failed over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed.” Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper, as he was told he lacked imagination. He failed repeatedly and faced bankruptcy before he built Disneyland, and even then, the city of Anaheim originally rejected his idea for the theme park.
It took endless experimentations for these individuals to succeed. Their achievements did not take place overnight. Each and every one of them faced repeated failure, faced hardships, and faced adversity but none of them gave up. They kept experimenting, they kept trying, and they kept going because they believed in their discovery.
Discovery means you are beginning a new course to changing your life. But in order to be successful, you will need to experiment, you will need to try new things, you will need to take new paths. It may get stressful, it may be frustrating and challenging, but it will be well worth it if you can achieve your goals. So today, remember, with discovery comes experimentation.
