I recently heard someone say, “no one benefits from an easy route.”
As I reflect on the past six months and the season of change my family has experienced, it has not been a smooth route. Yet, I wouldn’t trade it for a better one. We hope and pray for a peaceful and effortless path, but we know that personal growth is labored from a bumpy one. The more rugged the road is, the stronger and more resilient we are.
The most challenging part of our journey has been watching my girls leave behind everything they’ve known, their home, family, and friends. At the same time, I have witnessed the most growth and maturity in them. It breaks my heart watching my 8-year-old daughter crying as she squeezes her grandparents before our departure or after their visits. Nonetheless, I am grateful she is experiencing these emotions as they are building her up and developing her strength.
We want a well-paved and smooth road, yet we know that’s not the most beneficial. No matter what your route looks like, as you face it, allow yourself to feel the pain but then turn it around. Don’t give up, don’t stop looking for the opportunities that could be staring right back at you, waiting for you to grab on. Despite your situation, try and count your daily blessings. It might surprise you how many you have. Your strength didn’t come from an easy road; it came from your challenges that have shaped who you are today.
