A few years ago, I started a new tradition for the month of February, for my two girls, 8 and 5 years old. I write encouraging words on small heart shaped foams that I found at Dollar Tree and I tape them on their bedroom doors each night after they go to bed. Every morning they wake up to a new message. It is fun watching their little faces light up. My 5 year old can’t read yet, but she will come to my bedroom and ask me to read what the new heart says. It’s cute how excited they get about this.

Some of the messages are different and specific to each one’s personality, the rest of the messages are identical. For the identical ones, I make sure not to post them on the same night, that way each girl feels different and unique in her own little way.
I want my girls to know they are smart, beautiful, and strong, they are capable of anything and everything! Most of the messages start with “You are…”
In a world full of social media, bullying, and the constant reminders of the unrealistic expectations of what real beauty looks like, we need to know that we are good enough!
What a dear, sweet, encouraging February tradition, Ramina. I just love that idea.
