The past week has been extremely emotional for my family and me, tears streaming on and off as we watched various tributes, videos, and images of Kobe Bryant and the rest of the individuals that perished over a week ago.
During the Lost Angeles Laker’s first game since the passing of their greatest athlete and legend, one of the game commentators remarked a statement that has stuck with me. He said, “everyone will bring flowers to your funeral, but who is going to bring you soup when you’re sick?”
His words have been on replay in my head since. How often do we save our appreciation, love, respect, gratitude, and even forgiveness for someone’s funeral instead of telling them how we truly feel when they are alive? We hear this often “life is too short” yet, we continue to live as if tomorrow is guaranteed. Your loved ones could be here one minute and gone the next. Do they know your true feelings or are you saving them for when it’s too late?
Deliver your soup today; don’t save it all for the flowers. You will have a much bigger impact on other’s lives with soup than you ever will with flowers.
