Is It Obligation or Is It Opportunity?

How does a moment in life become an obligation instead of an opportunity? When we fall slaves to the mindset of ”I have to” instead of ”I want to.” In our daily busy life, juggling so many tasks at once, we have little time for ourselves, and when we do find that time, we are exhausted and sometimes drained. So when a task is asked of us, outside of our juggling act, the obligation mindset tends to kick in, taking over our attitude, our behavior, and even our joy.

There are moments in life when the obligation is a necessity and a requirement but in everything, it should be a gift, not a rule. Every morning we have certain things we are obligated to do such as family members, work, and even our community. When we tell ourselves ”we have to out of obligation” we automatically overwhelm ourselves and shift our mindset. We take the emotion out of our action, and in return, we add weight to our already burdened mind, grumbling and stumbling our way through. But how beautiful would it be if we looked at tasks and situations with the lens of opportunity instead of obligation? We could have so much more impact on ourselves and those around us by simply changing our mindset. So today, don’t look at situations as chores or duties, but instead, look for opportunities within. You never know, maybe an answer you’ve been looking for is hidden somewhere in there.
