No Resolutions For Me

The past few months, I’ve been feeling as if I’m running on a hamster wheel chasing my tail.  Do you ever picture yourself on that wheel?

If you’re anything like me, your plate is as full as it can be, ongoing tasks and duties that continue to pile on with no end in sight.  Attempting to squeeze in “ME” time to maintain my sanity seems like a chore amidst playing chauffeur to my girls, laundry, working, running my business, and all the other responsibilities.  I have to be honest, lately, I feel as if I’m on the treadmill of busyness, running through my days, and going through the motions with little satisfaction.  Don’t get me wrong, I love taking care of my family, but some days it’s hard not to feel as if I’m losing myself in the process.  Can you relate?

If we’re not careful, as we work our way through life and our responsibilities, we need to make sure we are still considering our desires, our goals, and even our emotions.  Losing ourselves while taking care of everyone and everything else can be crushing, especially when we look back and realize what we missed out on and the ramification of our self-care.

Don’t lose hope, my friend, because tomorrow is a brand new day, a brand new year, a brand new decade even.  This is the time most people will begin declaring their resolutions, only to find themselves abandoning them a few months later.  I’ve done that enough times to know that declaring a resolution will not give me the satisfaction I need.  Instead, I have decided to embark on small goals, small steps if you will.  These goals lead to a much bigger goal down the line.  This is a less overwhelming process that accommodates my crazy busy life, and it gives me the satisfaction of achievement, knowing that my little steps are mounting to something bigger.

So if you are able to hold true and follow through your resolutions…congratulations! That’s encouraging and admirable! But if you are like me, then consider starting small.  You don’t need to conquer the mountain by January 5th, but you can start training for it.

Counting my blessings and wishing you more.  I hope you enjoy the New Year ahead.

Happy New Year!!

  1. Thank you, Ramina. Your honesty truly helps me, a 68 year old, to be honest with myself also.
I just finished asking myself what do I do today? Not, what will my husband or granddaughter dictate to me? I feel as though I stop thinking for myself sometimes. Then I come to the bathroom, open my e-mails and there you are. Being vulnerable and encouraging. Don’t get me wrong, as an “adult ” Christian woman. I know the answers but still seem to get lost in the process of taking care of everyone”s needs but my own.
To all who read her posts follow Ramina’s advice and take it one step at a time. Trusting our Lord to lead the way.
Happy and blessed New Year !!!

    1. Thank you Gloria for your kind words! I am humbled to learn that I was able to encourage you today. Taking care of “you” is important and I’m glad to see you are doing it. God has a purpose for each one of us and we can’t achieve his plan if we neglect ourselves.

  2. I loved your post as always!! I agree; I don’t do well with “resolutions.” I do much better setting attainable goals throughout the year, and checking them off as I go. I do love to pick a word for each year that I believe God lays on my heart. 2019 was “Intentional.” I thought of it often, and it helped me reach daily and monthly goals much effectively.
    Happy New Year Ramina!!!

    1. Thank you Stephanie for your encouragement! “Intentional” was the word I chose last year, however, towards the end, it became harder to maintain with life (not a good excuse but it happened). Praise God for second chances and opportunities to keep trying 🙂
