What surprises you more: too much kindness or lack thereof?
I love reading “Good Samaritan” stories where strangers go above and beyond to help others. Whether it’s returning a lost wallet full of cash, or helping someone in need, or even saving a life. I find encouragement in these stories; they give me hope that there is still much good in this world. But what breaks my heart is that when I read these stories, I am in awe of the heroic acts of these individuals. The integrity they display is above the norm.
As I reflect on these stories and the culture we live in, it seems like showing kindness is more surprising than the pain, brokenness, and evil in our world today.
Being kind and displaying integrity has become the rare instead of the norm.
Kindness can have a ripple effect when done out of love instead of obligation or expectation. It not only encourages those we help, but it increases our joy, boosts our confidence, our compassion, and our empathy. Kindness will spread when we are intentional. So in a hurting world and a cancel culture, we can’t control the actions of those around us, but we do have control over ours.
