Personal Growth

Perseverance Is Not Glamorous

I have reached a point this year where laughing is all I have left when I hear of yet another surprise 2020 has concocted. Life is stressful as it is, it’s always testing us and challenging us, but this year seems to be pushing us to our limits and beyond.

Although this year has been immensely stressful and painful for so many of us, what I like to focus on is how much we have persevered. Think about it; look back at everything that has taken place since January. How much stronger is your tolerance, your persistence, and your perseverance? If someone would have told you a year ago that you would endure all of this in 2020, would you have believed them?

As we journey through life, we can be one of two types of people. We can look at the challenges as insurmountable obstacles, and instantly want to quit. Or we can be the type that insists on persevering regardless of the roadblocks.

I for one, want to be the latter because that’s where I experience personal growth the most. Whenever I am faced with challenges, I reflect on this verse:

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character, and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4

Perseverance is not easy and it’s not glamorous. It takes patience, a positive attitude, and faith to be able to endure life’s challenges with an open heart. But, it is also rewarding when you can look back and see how far you have come. You are not destined to quit so tap into your reserves and keep going!
