Self Compassion

It’s not a summer body or a winter body…it’s my body.  It is my wonderful, imperfect, often craving ice cream, adrenalin seeking, and work in progress vessel.  My body is my temple and for me to function at my best and serve my family the best I can, I need to treat it as such.

Lately, the two most common statements I keep hearing from most is “I’m going stir crazy” or “I’m gaining weight”  this got me thinking how often when life throws unexpected curve balls at us, we tend to abandon our routine and allow the stressors of life to take over, shifting our mindset and affecting our overall well-being.

Between online schooling, the quarantine, and everything else life has to offer, our plates are full, some more than others.  One thing I know for sure is my well-being is my priority and my compassion for myself.  I have made the conscious decision to continue exercising without the usual access to my gym, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that can provide me with the same results, daily devotional time, and reading various books for my personal growth.  Daily walks with my family around the neighborhood, weekly home facials with my girls, not to mention, our favorite…daily ice cream time.

Taking care of you is not selfish! It’s actually beneficial to you and those around you.

Start taking care of yourself with your mindset first by controlling your thoughts and changing your attitude.  Being optimistic is half the battle.  Take care of your soul by feeding it laughter, love, and anything else that brings your joy and makes you go “Ah, that’s exactly what I needed.”  Take care of your body with various things you can do right in your living room such as following a simple exercise video or bake a yummy treat at home that’s full of healthy ingredients instead of the packaged snacks in your pantry.  When you focus on yourself first, you will start to have a renewed energy you didn’t have before, you will develop inner peace which makes what we’re going through more bearable.

  1. Beautifully written, and GREAT advice!! I have been feeling so much of the same; taking daily walks, exercising, having daily devotions, reading personal development books, and laughing with friends via phone or zoom!! Have gotten many home projects completed that were so needed. So ready for all of this to be over, but cherishing the good things that have come from this unprecidented times.
